This technique is validated to produce
precise and reliable intraoral scans
1. Occlusal sweep
Starting from the most distal area scan the occlusal aspect in a single, slow, uninterrupted pass.
2. Buccal sweep
Hold the scanner ~45 ° to the occlusal plane and scan buccally from distal to distal.
3. Lingual sweep
Loop around to the lingual, ensuring full sulcus depth and the entire palate is captured.
4. Fill gaps and detail
the scan posts
Check the digital model for gaps/missing data; rescan any voids or incomplete areas.
5. Opposing arch
Repeat steps 1-3 for the opposing arch.
Helpful tips
Always inspect and (if necessary) calibrate your scanner prior to use. Aged, damaged or dirty tips will reduce their accuracy.
Use the dedicated implant workflow in the software.
Optimise ambient lighting for intraoral scanning and avoid strong illumination.
Position the patient ergonomically to allow for a smooth continuous scan procedure.
If temps are in place scan each temp prosthesis in situ, the established bite and the intaglio surface if modified.
Consider repeating scans with the scanner moving in opposite directions. This can help to detect and adjust for scan data for warping artifacts.
Consider whether an additional soft tissue scan might be required in FP1 cases.
